Readers' Letters to New in Chess
Edited by Amatzia Avni

Dear Sir,
I have subscribed to your magazine since 1990 and I must say that it is absolutely fabulous. I never seen a chess magazine that comes even close to yours. Keep up the good work - I love you.

Yours admiringly, Mr Likesto Suck, Canada

Editorial postscript: Yes, we know, we are great.

Dear NIC,
As a life-long necrophiliac, I'm attracted by Sosonko's obituaries. Please give us more stuff about the dead: I get a kick out of it.
Keep in touch,
Dead Manwo King, Zumbiland

Editorial postscript: You may be interested to learn that Genna has written a juicy piece about Korchnoi; unfortunately the great man is still alive, but we promise to print it as soon as he dies. We expect it to be a highlight of New in Chess - Sosonko has solicited the views of Petrosian and Gufeld via a spiritualist!

Hello folks,
I just finished reading the 23rd instalment of Matthew Sadler's freaky diaries. I believe that by now I know everything about Matthew - including a lot that I really shouldn't know. It would be interesting to give him some other writing assignment - maybe he could review some chess books?
Yours, A non-Philosophy student, Peru

Editorial postscript: Well, we like Sadler, he is here to stay, so you can shove it.

Dear New in Chess,
Regarding the analysis of the game Timman - Kobalia (NiC 7/2003) I believe that in the queen ending White could have achieved a slight advantage with 66.Qc1 (I enclose 16 pages of analysis).
With respect, Ihave Apentium, France

Editorial postscript: I checked your analysis and you are correct - Jan Timman.

Dear chess friends,
I miss GM Ree articles. He is very skilled indeed - I wish that he would write more often.
Nostal Gic, Atlantis

Editorial postscript: Our magazine appears 8 times in a year - skilled as he is, Ree couldn't possibly write more often than that.

To: New in Chess
Some months ago you asked readers a question in your mag. I answered but got no response. Incredibly the question reappeared in a subsequent issue. So I'm trying again. My answer to your question "New in Chess - Is It Nearly As Good As They Say?" is "No".
Frank Candid, USA

Editorial postscript: Your name has just been removed from our list of preferred customers.

To the best chess periodical in the galaxy,
I read with interest your views regarding FIDE (NIC 8/2003) and I was shocked by the amount of hypocrisy, plain lies and bad taste they contained. On second thoughts, I'm not really surprised - this is what we've come to expect from you.
Valery Asslov, FIDE Offices

To Jan,
I am the world's most boring chess annotator, providing the dullest and most detailed analysis available in any chess publication. After leafing through recent NICs I wonder whether I can still make this claim for myself.
Robert Hubner, Germany

Editorial postscript: The world moves on, Robert, and we thought it high time that you had some competition.

Hello,
My name is Imamutu and I am 7 years old. My mother is typing this letter for me. Last night I wondered whether White, after the moves 1.e4 e5, can play 2.Qf3? I would be interested in your expert opinion.
Imamutu's mother, Japan

Editorial postscript: Congratulations, Imamutu, you were ahead of us. Next month GM Bosch will contribute a 6-page theoretical article on this brand-new opening weapon.
