Magnus Carlsen lost his lead in round 11 after being defeated by Viswanathan Anand. The game could have turned out differently as he launched a dangerous attack on Viswanathan Anand and missed chances both to gain the advantage (25.Rc3) and later gain a probable draw before Anand's king escaped. Anand also moved up into joint second place half a point behind the leader.

Sergei Movsesian leads the B Group by half a point from Nigel Short and Etienne Bacrot. Short seems in goo form after beating Chaparinov but today he was in trouble against the faultering Jan Smeets. Smeets has blown a number of good positions in recent rounds and Short found some rather cheeky defensive moves which probably shouldn't have worked but allowed him to get back in the game and win at the first time control.
